Our Team
Created in 1980 by Ray Rumancik, Designer Builders started as a small company providing renovation, decorative fence, and deck building contracting services. Ray and his son Stefan combined their efforts in the 1990s and the company is now led by Stefan Rumancik. In the past decade, Designer Builders has expanded its contracting services to include custom remodeling, green remodeling, house additions, and beyond.

President
Stefan Rumancik was born into a family of builders in Danville, Kentucky. Led by the expertise of his father, he developed an early love for the trade as well as an appreciation for conservation and sustainability. Stefan took over Designer Builders in his early twenties and has transformed it from a 2 person company to one that now employs 6 full-time and 5 part-time staff, concentrating on sustainable building practices and high-quality craft. Stefan holds the designation as a Registered Remodeler with the Building Industry Association of Greater Louisville. Stefan enjoys time with his wife and daughter, biking the parks of Louisville, and live concerts. He also enjoys renovating his own 1930s home in historic Audubon Park.

Nancy was born and raised in Louisville, KY. Previously an art teacher, serendipity led her to a trim carpentry job four years ago. Working on new homes, she learned good practices and quickly became proficient in all things trim. Nancy is always looking for a new challenge, so she joined Designer Builders where she could learn to remodel old homes and further her skill set as a carpenter. She loves that she'll be able to apply these new skills when remodeling her own Victorian home. Nancy enjoys bicycling and roller skating around town, cooking with her partner, hiking and camping with their three dogs, and making art in the studio she built in her backyard.

Lead Carpenter & Service Technician
Jason Hall has been working as a carpenter in residential remodeling for 12 years. His previous experience includes foreman positions with non-profit foundations including Habitat for Humanity. His wife’s promotion moved him from Kansas to Louisville in 2012, when he started with Designer Builders Inc. Jason is not only our lead carpenter and service technician, but he also applies his skills as an enthusiast photographer by capturing our projects for the website portfolio. Jason enjoys music, local festivals, and competitive bearding.

Carpenter Assistant
He has a very strong ambition to become a skilled carpenter and his primary duties are tile installation, carpentry, project organization, and material inventory. In his late teens, Zach discovered his interest for carpentry which steered him to furthering his education at Jefferson Community and Technical College where he received eight certificates and an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. Dedicated and hardworking, Zach joined the Designer Builders team to further his education and experience in the home renovation field. Outside from work, Zach enjoys practicing his guitar, beekeeping, working in his woodshop, and listening to classic country music.

Office Manager
Kara was born and raised in Louisville, but currently lives just over the bridge in Jeffersonville, IN with her husband, two boys, and little weiner dog. Kara started her professional career in broadcasting, first in radio as an on-air DJ and then television in the commercial and digital advertising department. After having her two boys, Kara found a way to work from home as an executive assistant, primarily for non-profit organizations. Spending so much time in their house, both working and raising a family (during a pandemic mind you), Kara felt her love for all things “home” reach a new level of importance. Kara loves that she gets to support the Designer Builders Team in ways that ultimately create safe, comfortable, and beautiful spaces for people to live!
